The third and last regional stage of Knorr Master of Seasoning 2019 competition has taken place Down South. On 25 September, 42 chefs came together at Hikka Tranz by Cinnamon to showcase their seasoning expertise. The much-anticipated competition was supported by the Down South Chef Association, with the president and vice president of the Association also participating.
The chefs came in pairs from 21 hotels to put their skills to the test. Using a ‘black box’ of Knorr seasonings, their challenge was to create two magnificent dishes: one rice-based and one chicken-based, in just 90 minutes.
Judges Chef Saman Wijeratne (Executive Chef of Unilever Food Solutions, Sri Lanka and Maldives), Chef T.M.C Thennakoon (principal/senior lecturer in professional cookery, SLITHM Anuradhapura), and Chef Nuwan Wiranga (lecturer in professional cookery, SLITHM) had the final word.
In first place were Chef Asanka Munasingha and Chef Sisil Thilakrathna of Hikka Tranz Hotel for their Duo of Oriental Herb-Scented Stuffed Grilled Chicken Drumsticks & Crispy Fried Chicken Nuggets – a fusion dish using Knorr Crispy Coating Mix for the crispy nuggets – and their rice dish, Tangy Biryani Rice with Masala Marinated Grilled Chicken Kebabs, which used Knorr Biryani Mix to maximum effect.
Coming in second was Chef Dasun Rangana & Chef Indika Kalakaruna of Saman Villa. The third-place duo were Chef K.P.D. Sanjeewa & Chef D.M. Harsha of Riff Hotel. First and second place advance to the Grand Final to claim their place upon the best of the best!
