Last year, at the Knorr Master of Seasoning 2018 in Colombo, our participating chefs showed how simplicity can be outstanding. The grand final held on October 15th at the Unilever Food Solutions Chefmanship Center saw the finalists take an unassuming Fried Rice to the next level. Ultimately, Chef Danushka Namalwewa was awarded the Master title.

The judging panel consisted of Chef Saman Wijerathna, Executive chef, UFS Sri Lanka & Maldives; Chef Nuwan Wiranga, Lecturer Professional Cookery, SLITHM and Anuradha Edirisinghe, Country Head, UFS Sri Lanka & Maldives. Under their watchful eye, 6 finalists competed for the grand title.

While each recipe was awarded with compliments from the judges, Chef Danuskha Namalwewa of OZO Hotel, Kandy, Chef Janith Priyashantha of Grand Kandyan Hotel and Chef Sudarshana Dayananda of Hotel Thilanka, walked off with the top three prizes. The grand prize? A four-day trip for two to Malaysia with an exclusive culinary experience.

The exciting final cook-off showed the country’s culinary experts give their own take to a favourite local chicken dish and an accompanying fried rice dish. The competition not only tested their skills on flavour, but also judged their preparation, recipe and how they made the most of Knorr’s Seasonings to meet their cooking challenges.


Combined with cooking acumen, a love for their craft and a true master’s touch, each chef presented an impressive display of the best dish ideas made on the spot. It was a challenge that not only gave our chefs a platform to showcase their skills but also revealed the brilliance of Sri Lanka’s gastronomic genius.
